Moving Day

Yesterday we decided it was time to move the horses onto an area that wasn't grazed last year.

We drove up to where the Wild Bunch spent most of the winter so they would follow the pickup down and onto the fresh pasture. Here's Tom parked at the top of a STEEP hill which was the only way to drive to the gate we wanted the horses to go through.

I decided to get out and see what was taking so long, and to take pictures. I walked back and found them.

"Ok, what's going on here?"

They stayed to the top of the ridge while I started down, hopefully to find a good spot for pictures.

Tom didn't wait, but rolled on down the gully, so I didn't get a good shot This is at the bottom where it was already leveling out.

Once on the new pasture the horse's heads immediately dropped to eat.

A short time later they ran up to drink.

Star, the palomino, kept order until they settled down.

Good stuff, fresh spring water.

They drank and immediately headed back down.

Wakinyan and Sixty-Six were the last to drink. "Hey, wait for us. I think there's a wolf hiding back there."

This post looks a bit ragged. Blogger seems to be having spacing issues. It wouldn't let me put the comments right underneath the photos like I usually do.

  1. Great post!!!!! Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Good shots too, its the subject, not the composition, when the subject is moving!!

  2. Blogger spacing definitely has its own logic some days. Love these photos. Real feeling of early spring in them.

  3. Nice to see the snow gone on the pastures, and see the horses all running happily.
